The club started as part of the Ford Motor Company sports club with the shooting ground based in Ironwell Lane, Rochford, Essex. However after some time it was found necessary to break away from the Sports Club to enable new Club members to join who were not Ford employees.
In September 1984 we asked the Ford sports club if we could buy the equipment, and leave the sports club. This delighted the Ford sports club as they were looking to downsize on Club commitments, and we got the equipment for nothing.
We then re-named ourselves the Rochford Sporting Gun Club, and continued to shoot on the Ironwell Lane site. Due to encroaching housing developments and noise considerations we were subsequently evicted.
However, after reviewing several sites and through the good services of a club member, the site at West Hanningfield became available and the first shoot of the Rochford Sporting Gun Club on the current site took place in October 2001.
Since then we have built a high tower equipped with a multi stack trap, continued to expand our content of automatic traps and acquired a refurbished hospitality suite to provide those ever necessary hot dog and burger refreshments for Club members!
